Initiatives for Development of Mother & Child Health Care & Drug Control’ Project

Project Context

The health and well-being of mothers and children are critical issues in Bangladesh. Despite some progress, especially in reducing child mortality, maternal health remains a concern. The country faces persistent challenges due to poverty, malnutrition, and inadequate healthcare access. The situation is exacerbated in rural areas, where socio-economic disparities prevent many from accessing proper health services. Unsafe drug use has also become rampant, particularly affecting the youth. This project aims to address these critical concerns and provide both immediate healthcare support and long-term community education to improve maternal, child health, and tackle the growing drug problem.

Mother and Child Health
  • Child Health Status: Poverty, poor nutrition, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation contribute to a high child mortality rate. Micronutrient deficiencies like iodine, zinc, Vitamin A, and iron lead to poor growth, while diarrhea and respiratory infections are the leading causes of death in children under one year.
  • Maternal Health Status: Malnutrition among adolescent girls and pregnant women is widespread, leading to high rates of low birth weight and other severe health problems for both mothers and children. This creates a cycle of malnutrition and poor health across generations.
Drug Control

Drug addiction has become a pervasive issue in Bangladesh, particularly affecting the youth between the ages of 15-30. Drugs such as yaba, heroin, and phensedyl are easily accessible, despite the government’s efforts to curb the problem through strict legislation and law enforcement. The drug epidemic is contributing to increased crime and deteriorating social structures, making it essential to address both prevention and rehabilitation.
